"Pets for Seniors" Program

The “Pets for Seniors” program encourages animal interactions with senior citizens and offers a reduced adoption fee for senior citizens 65 years of age or older.

Owning and handling animals help senior citizen live longer, healthier and more enjoyable lives. Studies show that contact with animals may lower one’s blood pressure, decrease stress levels, lower cholesterol levels and increase blood circulation.

Dogs Gone Swimming
September 18 from 12pm-4pm
Norfolk Wellness and Fitness Center

The Second Annual Dogs Gone Swimming will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010. In addition to the swimming, diving, ball chasing and romping around in general, there will be activities in the field area near the outdoor pool. There will be refreshments, Norfolk Police K-9 demonstrations, Agility demonstrations, Red Cross animal first aid training, and much, much more. Visit the PHS booth at the Dogs Gone Swimming event!

Suffolk Humane Society's "Mutt Strut"

Sleepy Hole Park, Suffolk, VA

Pet First Aid

Suffolk Chapter of American Red Cross

The $50.00 fee to participate includes a book, dvd and t-shirt. To pre-register, please call 757-539-6645.

The 54th Annual Blessing of the Animals
Sunday October 3 at 4pm
Trinity Episcopal Church (500 Court Street)

All are invited to bring their pets for a blessing at the 54th Annual Blessing of the Animals Service! This non-denominational service and all are welcome. The collection will benefit the Portsmouth Humans Society.
