Join the Monthly Giving Program
The Monthly Giving Program is an ideal program for donors wishing to break down their donations into manageable amounts that fit their charitable giving goals. Monthly Giving Program members choose a set amount to be automatically charged to a credit card at the first of every month.  This program allows you to make a great impact on the welfare of our animals, one month at a time!

Annual Giving Club
Our Annual Giving Club is reserved for those who make a yearly gift to support our efforts of helping animals in need. Through our Annual Giving Club we can acknowledge and thank those whose generous annual gifts ensure that our doors remain open year after year. The Annual Giving Club membership is renewed annually and is based upon total annual gifts.   Following are the Giving Club levels:

Bronze Paws................$100 - $499
Silver Paws..................$500 - $999
Gold Paws....................$1,000 - $4,999
Platinum Paws.............$5,000 - $9,999
Emerald Paws.............$10,000 - $14,999
Diamond Paws............$15,000 and Up

General Operations
Donations to the General Operating Fund support the daily operations of the facility.

Spay/Neuter Fund
The Spay/Neuter Fund supports low-cost or free surgeries for qualifying pet owners. This fund also supports our Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Program. Through the TNR Program participants may trap feral cats on their property, bring them to PHS to be fixed and vaccinated, and then return the cats to their colony so they may live out their lives in peace.

Care Fund
The Care Fund provides medical treatment for animals prior to their adoption.

Matching Gifts
Many companies match their employees' donations to registered non-profit organizations, such as Portsmouth Humane Society. Please consider having your gift matched by your employer. Contact the Human Resource Department at your company for more information.

"Animal Friendly" License Plate
When you purchase an Animal Friendly License Plate through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, PHS will receive $15 per plate*!  Click here to learn more

Car Program
Donate your old, unwanted vehicle and raise funds for PHS!  The used vehicle donation Car Program tows your unwanted car for no cost, sells the vehicle and distributes the proceeds to PHS.  You will receive a tax deduction for your donation and will feel great about helping the animals at PHS. Planned Giving
As a donor you can support the animals at PHS now or designate your generous gifts for the future.  There are several options for Planned Giving which can be customized to fit your preferences.

	General Bequests Your support of the animals can be never ending. Remembering PHS in your Will with a bequest can provide care, protection and save lives after you are gone.  Choose an unrestricted bequest, allowing PHS to direct your gift to where it will have the greatest impact, or a restricted bequest, allowing you to designate to which fund you would like the gift to be used.
	Charitable Lead Trusts A Charitable Lead Trust involves the transfer of assets to a trust specifying that the income be paid to PHS for a term of years. Following that time, the remaining interest can pass on to an individual beneficiary, such as a child or grandchild.  These may be structured in different ways to meet your particular needs.  Your lead trust can be established during your life or testamentary, and can be arranged so that estate and gift taxes are substantially reduced. You may avoid capital gains tax on the sale of the appreciated asset, and you may receive an immediate tax deduction for your gift to the trust.
	Life Insurance Policies Another Planned Giving opportunity is to name PHS as the beneficiary of your life insurance. You may receive an income tax deduction for the present value of the policy as well as any premiums you pay after the gift.
	Gifts of Stock Donating appreciated stock is one of the most beneficial gifts you can make.  Your tax savings are potentially great and the impact on PHS programs is profound.  To donate gifts of stock contact your financial adviser with instructions to make the transfer to PHS.  If the stock has appreciated significantly, you will avoid paying the capital gain taxes due if you were to sell the stock.
